This is our cat Maui, and she’s absolutely precious! 😻
She’s a bundle of joy and gives the best healing purrs, exactly when we need them.
There’s nothing like when she’s sitting on our lap, or our chest, and we can feel her purrs vibrate through our body. It’s magical.
Yes… if we are laying down, she will lay on our chest right by our face! 😺 She’s been known to put her paw right on our face too.
As she’s gotten older, she’s slowed down from her youthful self.
She plays less, runs less and just moves at a ‘confident swag’ type pace.
Since she’s over 10 years old, we just figured this is what happens.
Well, about 3 months ago, something was wrong with her and we could tell she was in pain.
She became very vocal to us, which wasn’t normal.
She was walking with her hind legs straight up, which made her have a hunched back.
Her balance was off. When she walked, it wasn’t with confidence and she staggered every now and then.
On top of that, a few times she was stretching, her back legs gave out completely. We do have concrete floors in our home, but that’s never been a problem in the past.
The Turning Point
Then, there came a point where she was barely moving at all during the day.
She wasn’t eating and drinking that much, and she stayed on ground level for about 2 weeks. That meant she wasn’t even jumping up on the couch, the bed, or anything!
Now before you get up in arms at us and wonder why we didn’t take her to the vet… we did. 2 holistic vets in fact. 👩🏻⚕️
We put her through the strenuous tasks of going to the vet, getting physical exams done, taking blood, doing x-rays, etc.
You know the drill.
All the tests came back negative, except for her slightly elevated kidney levels… which we’ve known about for a few years now.
The x-rays came back negative as well. We were looking for nerve damage in the spine but couldn’t see any.
And of course we could have spent $1000 doing an MRI, but that just didn’t seem like it was going to give us any answers.
So we got sent home with some pain meds and advice to try and flush her system with more fluids… but no real answers.
Taking Matters Into Our Own Hands
One of the reasons we created a line of hemp oil products for pets was exactly for a situation like this.
Our little fur baby needed something better than a white pill to ‘temporarily mask’ the problem.
So we gave her our salmon flavored hemp oil.
We put it on top of her food… about 1/4 of a dropper per day.
And since she loves the taste of salmon, getting her to eat it wasn’t a problem.
We could have tried to put it directly into her mouth in one shot, but she really doesn’t like to be manhandled, so we decided against it.
So a week went by…
We started seeing a noticeable change in that she was moving more freely and with a purpose. Yes!!
We were encouraged.
We were starting to get ready to do a happy dance.
Then another week went by…
She got so much better, it was crazy! It’s like she found the fountain of youth.
She was running again and jumping up on the furniture without any hesitation.
She was laying on our laps all the time and wanted to be petted again!
Her vocal outbursts to use were dramatically reduced.
Now we obviously don’t speak cat (even though we think we do), but she was definitely happy and not in pain.
And this was just in 2 weeks!!
Our happy dance was in full swing.
We were blown away at what was going on… no joke.
We had read and heard about so many stories like this from other people, but there’s always that slight amount of doubt until you see it for yourself.
Well, we had our own proof.
Side Note: We created a product specifically for cats using Salmon oil as the carrier agent instead of MCT oil. There’s a study showing a possible link to MCT oil and liver disease with cats. Here’s the source.
3 Months Later
She’s been getting her salmon flavored hemp oil everyday now for 3 months… and we couldn’t be happier!
So far, we haven’t seen her pain return.
We haven’t seen her lose her balance when walking or stretching.
We haven’t seen her lose her appetite.
She’s still playing and running around.
She still is excited everyday to go outside in the back yard and wander around.
She’s still invading our personal space a little too much when laying on our chest.
She’s a happy, happy cat that does what every other cat does… she ignores us until she decides she wants to be around us!
We live in her world and she’s the queen of the house! 👸🏻
But we’re okay with that… 😉
We’d love to hear from you!
